A Look in the Mirror
the memoir of a Deaf performer
a one-woman show written and performed in American Sign Language by Nic Zapko
Created in collaboration with Zaraawar Mistry

Live audio interpretation in English by Patty Gordon

Recommended for ages 13 and older. Running time: 90 minutes, no intermission.

Born Deaf, and raised in a family of Deaf and hearing people, Nic Zapko grew up in an environment of tolerance, acceptance and understanding. But after the death of her mother, when Nic was still a young teenager, her family fell apart and became estranged from each other. Nic herself fell into a cycle of poverty, neglect and isolation. But a chance encounter with a theater company gives her renewed hope and an opportunity to build a new family. Told with humor and compassion, A Look in the Mirror is a hard-hitting true story of loss, despair and redemption.
